Weeping Willow Farm

Weeping Willow Farm Mission

To Serve….

The Land

-By giving back more than we take with practices which contribute to biodiversity, healthy waterways and soil fertility.

-By leaving future generations a thriving farm ecosystem and modeling a mutually supportive relationship with the land.

-By conserving undeveloped land in the Taos Valley, designating wetland areas and preserving natural habitat.

The Community

-By providing a place to play and run free, to make animal friends and to explore the natural world.

-By offering a place to say prayers for community members in need and for our mother earth, to find peace and to practice contemplation.

-By joining together to work hard and feel pride in the fruits of our labor.

-By inviting elders, children, friends and family to gather and prepare and share food, to celebrate the seasons and to give thanks.

To Nourish……

Ourselves and Each Other

-By teaching the skills to attain food sovereignty and take back control of our food and our health.

-By providing delicious, nutritious, local food to the Taos community, offering affordable rates, trade and work-trade options for low-income community members.

-By practicing conscious animal husbandry and providing animal products based on compassionate care.

Weeping Willow Farm cares about community. We believe in meaningful engagement in the work of sustaining life not just for humans in the here and now, but for all sentient beings. Through the practices of sustainable agriculture and conscious land stewardship we are honoring the ancestors and future generations. We are showing gratitude for the gifts of the water, the earth and the air and sharing our lives with all the beings that they support.

We are a community of teachers and learners. We spend our days growing and preserving food, caring for the animals, and tending to the land and the waterways.  We value aesthetic beauty, attentive craftspersonship and mutual respect. Weeping Willow Farm is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is run in the spirit of service to all-caring for mother earth and all of creation and honoring the sacred essence that dwells in all beings.  In the quiet of the valley, under the shelter of the mountain, the human spirit finds peace and purpose and takes refuge at the feet of the great mystery.

The Land

Weeping Willow Farm sits on 20 acres of lush pasture land, criss-crossed by perennial streams supporting bands of riparian habitat.  We are committed to practicing ethical land and water stewardship and our grazing practices reflect our deep love for the Taos Valley.  The pastureland and watershed are home to a variety of wild herbs and flowers and support a diverse community of wildlife.  In the early morning, coyotes bound across the back of the fields. Just after the sun sets, huge owls swoop out of large willow and cottonwood trees, their haunting screech echoing through the air.  Bunnies hop around the barns, a weasel peeks around a fencepost, a hawk soars overhead, and the cows lay facing the afternoon sun with their eyes closed and a distinct look of bliss on their faces, chewing their cud in contentment.

We are so grateful each morning as we look across the fields and see the sun rising above Taos Mountain, warming our chilly hands as we milk the cows and goats.  And each evening we thank the indwelling spirit for bringing this family-all of us children of mother earth-together.

In Loving Service,

Jonathan and Anandi

In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
Today I will walk out, today everything negative will leave me
I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body.
I will have a light body, I will be happy forever, nothing will hinder me.
I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me.
I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me.
I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful.
In beauty all day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons, may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.
With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful…
